2 recent SEO studies from Raven Tools and Search Engine Land reveal website publishers are either unaware of or unwilling to pay attention to the details that Google would like to see covered in their Webmaster Guidelines. Here are the two reports:

Here are the three issues:

  • Problem #1: 80% of websites are not using the Schema microdata format
  • Problem #2: 78% of websites are not properly tagging their images
  • Problem #3: 29% have duplicate content

There really is no excuse for this because these issues can easily be fixed by adding 3 plugins to WordPress and paying more attention to detail. Here are the fixes:

Problem #1: Install the Schema Creator WordPress plugin by Raven. Configure it and use it on every post to add schema microdata to your content.

Problem #2: Install and configure the SEO Friendly Images plugin by Vladimir Prelovac. I covered that topic here.

Problem #3: Install and configure the Yoast SEO plugin. The Yoast SEO plugin is without a doubt the best and most comprehensive SEO plugin for WordPress. Unless you don’t care about getting found in search, you simply must use this plugin. No other SEO plugin even comes close to providing the comprehensive quality of Yoast.

If you need help with the installation and configuration of these plugins, I am always available as a resource. You can find out how to engage my services here. Whether you decide to fix these issues yourself or hire someone like me to do it, issues like this simply must be addressed if you hope to have a good relationship with the Google Search Engine which results in you getting found when people are looking for someone who does what you do. Questions? Feedback?

Thanks for noticing! It’s a great report and it underscores how critical it is for webmasters and SEOs to take care of the basics AND how easy it is to actually do that…
